Are You A Lucid Dreamer?
Dreaming is something we can't avoid. Sometimes you remember your dreams and sometimes you don't! What if you could tap into controlling your dreams? What if I told you that controlling your dreams was possible?
First, what is Lucid Dreaming? It's when the dreamer is hyper aware of their dreams. During the dream, you may gain some amount of control over the dream characters, narrative, and environment. However, it goes beyond that definition and you don't necessarily have to control your dreams in any way in order for it to be called a lucid dream. Simply being aware is enough. Some people out there lucid dream for fun, to experience fantasies, explore other worlds, and use imagination to have fun.
Then, there are others, who use lucid dreaming for spiritual connection. To gain self awareness, receive divine messages, and seek enlightenment. The purpose is to apply the knowledge gained for clarity. To make decisions in your current reality that will serve your higher purpose, connect you to your intuition and use the guidance in any beneficial way that applies to your circumstance.
The first known textual description of lucid dreaming dates before 1000 BCE from the Upanishads, the Hindu oral tradition of spiritual lessons, philosophy and proverbs. Another ancient Hindu tract that describes how best to direct consciousness within the dream and vision states of sleep is found in the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra. In Tibet, lucid dreaming has been used in their meditations for over 12000 years. The Tibetan Book of the Dead, which dates back to 8th century, is a shamanic practice for lucid dreaming that still remains in the culture.
These ancient dream practices later influenced dream scholars in the 20th century, especially with the Humanistic and Transpersonal Schools of American Psychology. Many historians and occultists learned about these practices from the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
So why does this matter? Well, a scientist by the name of Rene Descartes, who was most famous for being dismissive or subjective reality, explored lucid dreaming and spoke passionately about his experiences in a private journal known today as the Olympica. It revealed that lucid dreams helped him frame his scientific method that was born from the statement "Cogito ergo sum", which translates to, " I think therefore I am," meaning 'demonstrating the attainability of certain knowledge'. The "I am" (sum) expresses an immediate intuition.
If you have any doubts that lucid dreaming isn't real or doesn't exist, try it yourself. Descartes was a disbeliever, but his nature to explore questions through experiments allowed him to open his mind to astral possibilities. When he did, he found himself understanding the world beyond the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world. Into other dimensions and reality. My thoughts? Don't knock it til you try it.
